Morley Physiotherapy Centre has qualified and highly experienced physiotherapists using dry needling (or trigger point needling) in the management and treatment of musculoskeletal pain and injury.
What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling involves inserting small filament type needles (similar to those used in acupuncture) into trigger points (knots) within a muscle to stimulate and release them. Once the trigger point is stimulated, the muscle will often twitch, causing a reflex release of the tight muscles that often cannot be achieved by physical manipulation alone.
Why Get Dry Needling?
The aim of dry needling is a faster, more effective release of tight muscles, with the goal of permanently reducing muscle pain and dysfunction in the affected area. This proven technique is used worldwide in the effective management of a number of musculoskeletal conditions, including:
- Sports injuries (e.g. groin, hamstring, calf)
- Tennis elbow
- Repetitive strain injuries
- Acute or Chronic back and neck pain
- Migraines and headaches
- Work-related injuries
- Whiplash
- Plantar Fasciitis
- TMJ (jaw) pain
- Post-surgery recovery (e.g. ACL reconstruction, arthroscopy, joint replacement)
- Post-fracture treatment
Scared Of Needles?
Dry needling is a very safe, effective and mostly painless technique when administered by a qualified and experienced therapist.
Needling works very well in combination with other treatments, including hands-on physiotherapy, Clinical Pilates (for strengthening) and Rock Taping (for stability during recovery) in the management and rehabilitation of all types of pain or injury.
